"Looks great but power died after 1 use!!!" 2009-02-14
By S. Banerjee (Boston, MA)
This drive is a cheap piece of garbage. I backed up my hard drive once (in Nov 08) and then two weeks later (in Dec 08) tried to retrieve the information but the drive would not turn on!! I called Amazon and Cavalry. Amazon was past 30 days so no go. Cavalry said the drive was under warranty, but shipping costs and insurance (required) were at my expense and they would replace the drive rather than fix it. Poof - there goes my data with no chance of recovery!! I could not lose all my awesome pictures, music, files, etc. I asked an IT friend who said the power supply in the case probably quit. I bought a new case on Amazon ($30 - I highly recommend the Antec MX-100), opened up the Cavalry (which voids their warranty), and moved the hard drive into the Antec case. The whole process was super easy and intuitive and took only 5 minutes. Now it works great, the Antec black aluminum case looks sexy, and my data is perfect. My friend was right - Cavalry puts a nice drive into a garbage case which is why they sell at a price so low. Their warranty policy is worthless.

I am getting a second backup drive but buying it in separate pieces: a Western Digital hard drive (1TB green bulk drive - $108 on Amazon) and another Antec MX-100 case. This is so easy to put together and I will always have a backup for my backup.
